The original Dell Compellent was based on proprietary licensed Storage Center software running on FreeBSD 10.0. This system is running a standard FreeBSD 14.1 Release and is completely license-free and open. You can use any standard small-form-factor SAS2/SAS3/SATA hard drive you want in this system, either SSD or HDD. Two fibre channel 16 Gbps and two 10 Gbps Ethernet ports are available for block storage sharing and NFS3 or NSF4 file sharing at near wire-speed performance (see pictures)As configured, the array contains a single controller and 24 2TB Seagate SATA hard drives set up in a redundant 6x4 raidz1 ZFS configuration. Currently, two 4TB volumes are set up for FC block sharing, one per FC16 port. The rest of the disk space (about 40 TB) is available to NFS via two 10Gb ports. Sixteen disk slots are covered with disk fillers and are available for storage expansion.A user’s manual is shipping with the system that lists all necessary commands you will need if you decide to reconfigure the system yourself.
