Knox on "Life in the Great Metrololis". A third by the chief of NY detectives, Thomas Byrnes, "Criminal Life and Detective Experiences in the Great Metropolis". Helen Campbell was a noted social worker of the period, Thomas Knox was a journalist and Thomas Byrnes was the Chief of Police. In this era before electric lights it was necessary to take many of the photos by flashlight. Heartrending account of the incredibly difficult living conditions written by three people who were experts in their fields. 252 illustrations of which there are 15 full page illustrations. The book has cover wear, especially the corners and spine ends. The endpapers appears to have been reglued. Some light foxing, but overall, the main body of the text s clean and tight.
