Description: The Pacific locomotives (4-6-2 wheel configuration) dateto the early 20th century. Many railroads used the Pacific as theprimary motive power for passenger service, and the Southern Pacific acquired someof them. The prototype for this model was called Class P-10 by SP. SP 2485 was manufacturedby Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1923 or 1924 and remained in service until themid- to late-1950s. BLI’s model features die-cast chassis and boiler, withdetailed plastic parts. It is identified as “USRA Heavy Pacific,” but thenomenclature is questionable. Baldwin may very well have utilized the USRAdesign as the basis for its locomotives. The attribution “heavy” could refer tothe fact that earlier classes of Pacific locomotives were lighter. In any case,it is a beautiful model that faithfully represents the Pacific locomotives inuse by SP and other railroads for many years. The tender and locomotive cab are painted using theDaylight color scheme, making it suitable to pull Daylight passenger cars. Ihave a set of Daylight passenger cars, if you are interested. The model includes a Paragon 3 DCC decoder that providesauthentic sound. The model can be operated on DC or DCC-managed layouts. Thebox includes detailed operating instructions. The model has never been operated. It was removed from thebox for photography.
