book used, The Enchanted Island of Yew by L. Frank Baum 1903, antique

Description: L. Frank Baum is the famous author who wrote the series of Wizard of Oz books at the turn of the century. This is another fantasy/fairy tale type of book with wonderful illustrations by Fanny Y. Cory. copyright date is 1903 , but the most interesting thing is that not all of the books with the same copyright are the same! they were printed in at least 2 cities with different publishers, and they are different versions of the same book. This book was published by The Bobbs-Merrill Company, Indianapolis. and it has some of its illustrations like the title page in red ink, while the version from chicago is in black. also, it has something I have never seen before. it has red illustrations behind the type every 3-4 pages ! there are a few of these same books with the 1903 copyright here on ebay, but i cant tell if they have the same red illustrations as well. i am assuming the ones from indianapolis do, but one I saw on ebay had the same red illustration on page 238, but it was upside down from my version. the book has a greenish gray cover with some wrinkles in the cover. the binding is strong, but the exterior spine has age spotting and worn fabric with 1 small hole. the inside cover has "to richard from aunt lillian" written above beautiful illustration. there are several full color illustrations throughout the book besides the red illustrations. unfortunately 2 of them are missing from the book. the color plate next to title page is missing as well as color plate next to page 238. the paper inside is mostly clean with very little ageing spots or tiny tears. i would say book is good to very good overall except for missing those 2 color plates. exterior book cover has some discolored and bumped edges. Truly a unique book to add to your collection.
