Beef Production Processing Cattle Raising Slaughter Vintage 1950s to 1960s Films

Description: Please read & note: This is a Rights holding DVD created & produced by me and is not factory made or sealed. I strive to produce the best DVD's possible from the sometimes VERY old Public Domain material. Films that are public domain are unpreserved and not professionally remastered. I remaster all of my films myself to the best possible quality achievable. My DVDs are not the quality of todays Modern DVDs or Bluray discs. If you are looking for this kind of quality then these discs are not for you. All pictures are actual screen captures from the DVDs. Please note this when purchasing, but also know that all of the films are very watchable. To keep my prices as low as possible all my DVDs are delivered in plain paper DVD sleeves and the DVDs title will be labeled on the back of the DVD envelope. (See picture) All of my DVD's come with a menu for easy film selection. Total runtime of this DVD is 105 minutes. Item specifics are: Film 1: Beef Rings the Bell (1960) COLOR Runtime 27 Minutes This is a film about meat. About big slabs of red meat. Beef, in particular. The first half is all about cattle raising, selling, and feeding. It has footage of the Omaha stockyards in their heyday, when they used to be the biggest in the world. The footage of a cattle auction is also mildly interesting. But its not until the second half of the movie that it really gets going. Then it becomes the most meat-intensive film you ever saw, featuring extensive, detailed footage of meat cutting, long refrigerated cases of shrink-wrapped packages of rich, red meat, billboards with giant steaks on them, and backyard barbecue footage straight out of the Big Boy Barbecue Guide, including tacky barbecue aprons and huge steaks served charred on the outside and bloody red on the inside. Which makes it a great deal of fun in my book, though its definitely not for vegetarians. Film Release Date: 1960 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1989 Film 2: Herds West (1955) COLOR Runtime 11 Minutes Similar in scope to the wonderful "Beef Rings The Bell", the film focuses on how cows are brought to market, their feeding habits and their transport. there's great shots of cows milling about, eating, and the way we are told of how cows are herded, corralled and transported to the packing plants is quite well shown. Again, we are spared slaughter shots, but a scene at the end of the film when the last cows are entering the plant and the worker closes the door behind them is quite sad. Film Release Date: 1955 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1984 Film 3: This Is Hormel (1965) COLOR Runtime 30 Minutes This Film goes into great detail of all the things that Hormel does. It shows all the different types of food that Hormel makes, and you get to see Mr. Rugg's ridiculous hat! Because this was a promotional video, a lot of the processes are left out. Most notably, we skip from seeing a queue of live cows to a hanging carcass. Some great processing shots here! Film Release Date: 1965 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1994 Film 4: Meat On The Move (1962) B&W Runtime 27 Minutes The story of meat production from farm to supermarket. Shows the intricate maze of production, transportation, marketing, testing, cutting, curing, processing, packaging and delivering. Film Release Date: 1962 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1991 Film 5: Meat - From Range To Market (1955) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Vegetarians will cringe, but those who enjoy eating meat will be enthralled by this whirlwind tour of the American livestock industry. After a brief examination of the agricultural geography of the United States and the maturation and sale of animals on various regions of farmland, some fairly visceral, yet very fascinating scenes are shown of recently slaughtered animals moving along the disassembly line. These scenes effectively demonstrate the elaborate procedures of meat processing plants, and comprise the best part of the film. Be sure to watch for the footage of the lard being poured into the containers! The creation of items and materials through the use of various animal byproducts is also explored. The livestock industry has changed over time, but this production is still a gem. Film Release Date: 1955 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1984 I claim ownership and rights to this media. All the films on this DVD have been researched and are copyright free or the copyrights have expired due to non renewal.
