Description: Augustus H. Garland. (1832-1899). Controversial Confederate lawyer and politician. He was a senator in both the United States and the Confederate States, served as Governor of Arkansas and as Attorney General of the United States in the first administration of Grover Cleveland. Garland was the first and only United States cabinet secretary to be censured by Congress when, in 1886, Garland failed to provide documents about the firing of a United States Attorney. 6.75x4.5 album sheet signed “A. H. Garland Ark.” Printed bio affixed to upper portion of page. Ink notation in left margin identifies Garland as Attorney General under President Cleveland. In very good condition.
