Description: Antique Victorian jewelry set demi parure. Gold Turquoise. Made in France circa 1880's. Comes in original shaped and fitted Victorian jewelry box. Measurements: Weight is 11 grams. Length of brooch 2 1/4 inches (5.7cm). Length of earrings 1 3/8 inches (3.5cm) not including wires. Description : Exquisitely made jewelry set. Each part composed of a main body that arches. The brooch more fully round and spherical than the earrings. Openwork clusters of flowers. Each flower composed of a golden faceted center. The facets increase the play of light as the light is reflected from each angled faced. The centers surrounded by 5 cabochon turquoise, forming a little forget-me-not flower. Each group or flower is surrounded and contained by a gold colette.Beneath the main circular body, is a trio of fringes with the longest in the centre. Gold links join the body to a forget-me-not, identical to those above. This in turn leads to a series of more gold links interspersed with single cabochon turquoise, colette set in gold. The gold links give full flexibility to the fringes, which swing and sway with every tiny movement of the wearer, drawing the eye and catching subtle attention. The back of the brooch with a hinged pin and simple C-clasp. The earrings with their original wires, hinged at the bottom and going through the ear lobe from back to front, clicking simply into place. The turquoise is of a stunning, uniform, light blue color and is of an excellent quality. Workmanship is fabulous - see the beautiful closed backs and clean edges, even at the back. Despite their delicate appearance, they are in fact, very sturdily made and have lasted in amazing condition for 150 years. The forget-me-not has obvious romantic and sentimental meaning. It was a popular theme in Victorian jewelry. Turquoise has many significances and symbolisms in jewelry. The combination is exceptionally sweet and poignant. A great 'extra' with this set is that it still comes in its original, fitted box. The box is shaped like a badge or banner of old with a sloping inner velvet bottom fitted with place for each item in the set. Silk-lined inner top. Outside is leather. Hinged. All in good original shape, especially considering the age. Marks and Metal: The C of the clasp has eagle head, as does the pin (This mark was used for 18k gold in France and was the French gold standard). We did not find marks on the earrings.
