Description: ANTIQUE RARE Solid brass Belgium Bell Evangelist, with the names of Saints.Beautiful heavy antique brass catholic church bell. It is in Latin, S. LVCAS, S. JOHANNE, S. MATHEVS, S. MARCVS.Solid brass evangelist's Bell, with names of saints marked around its skirt with the four creatures: Mathevs - the winged man, as its gospel narrative traces the human genealogy of Jesus. Marcvs - a lion, this is the symbol of Mark, because his Gospel story begins with the voice of one who cries in the desert like the roar of a lion. Lvcas - an ox, the sacrificial animal emphasizes the atoning sacrifice of Jesus. Johannes - a bird, he rises to the highest heights, dealing with the spirit of Christ. The bell dates from at least 1900-1950. Brought back to the United States by a Belgian family in the 1950s. 7.5 inches (18 cm) high X 4.75 in (12 cm).
