DESCRIPTION Beautiful oil on canvas landscape of two gentlemen fishing from a rowboat in a quiet stream, with a sailboat and rolling forested hills in the background. Signed lower left "PARKHURST." Framed in a gorgeous deep cove gilded frame, probably the original.Thomas Shrewsbury Parkhurst was born in Manchester, England. While living in Ohio, he was associated with the Toledo Museum for many years. Having visited California, he retired from the museum in 1917 and settled on the Monterey Peninsula into a studio-home in the Carmel Highlands. His earlier painting forte had been landscapes; however, the California coast with its rugged cliffs and the many moods of the ocean dominated his later subject matter. Parkhurst died in Carmel in 1923. CONDITION Overall very good. Some craquelure throughout. No noticeable paint loss.
