He is said to be the ninth-generation descendant of Shizu Saburo Kaneuji. In his early years around the Tenbun era, he forged swords in the town of Hachiman under Gujō County in Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture). Later, he became a swordsmith in the service of Takeda Shingen.In February of the second year of the Bunroku era (1593), Kanemichi traveled to Kyoto with his four sons—"Iga no Kami Kinmichi," "Echigo no Kami Rai Kinmichi," "Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi," and "Etchu no Kami Masatoshi"—as part of a retinue accompanying the regent of Nijō. He established his residence in Nishinotōin, where he continued his sword forging.Kanemichi's works primarily consisted of tantō (daggers) and ko-wakizashi (small short swords), with only a few long swords (katana). His sword files featured unique patterns: takanoha for the swords, and higaki for the Tanto. In his later years, he adopted the "kiri" file pattern. It is also noteworthy that several other swordsmiths in Mino Province during the late Muromachi period also used the name "Kanemichi."
