Description: Antique HandCrafted Carved Shell Cameo Pin W/Goddess Aurora & Horses SIGNED "FM" Click image to enlarge Description Offered for your consideration is a gorgeous, antique or vintage, carved cameo pin or brooch. This is a genuine hand carved shell, and not a plastic or resin, and depicts a beautiful woman driving a team of horses. The woman is Aurora, the Roman Goddess of Dawn. According to mythology, Aurora was the first to wake and bring forth the dawn across the sky. The piece is marked, with the initials of the creator "FM", but I am unsure who they were, or where their origin was. The metal used for the bezel is untested, but does appear to be crafted in some kind of precious metal, such as 14K or gold filled, as many of the bezels used on these pieces were gold or gold filled. Based on the irregularities in the bezel, it does show signs of having been hand crafted specifically for this cameo. There MAY HAVE BEEN a repair to the piece, as the catch bar and catch are in a different metal, than that of the bezel. In very good 'as found' condition, the closing mechanism still operates properly. The brooch measures 2 1/8" tall and 1 11/16" at the widest. A true stunner for the cameo collector.
