Description: Here is a delightful leather oval box with a velvet interior. It is from the estate of a wealthy1800's shipyard owner and merchant and three generations of his family. The box is relatively small at 4.5 by 2.5 by 1.5 inches, and it's original purpose could be any number of things. Gentleman's grooming comes to mind. Or some special medal or ornament. The edge is decorated with a gold filigree design. The velvet interior is in the top and the bottom. The sides have simple gold lines.There is a lovely patina expected from an item a 50 years old.
