Description: This is an antique Topsy Turvy Flip Doll from the early 1900s. This doll belonged to my neighbor's Grandmother and was received by her prior to 1910. The doll is hand made of cloth, with a sewn face and no hair, each doll is wearing a silk kerchief. The doll has some staining, both on the dress and the doll head. The dress and kerchief has some wear and staining consistent with the age. I believe it is stuffed with horse hair. There has been a stich repair to the neck of the black doll and to one arm of the white doll. The arms are sewn on with the original buttons. I have tried to highlight any defects in the pictures, but feel free to ask any questions. Measuring approximately 14 inches tall. It will sit on its own with difficulty, but I have pictured it on a stand and I will include it when shipped. This is a nice early example of the topsy turvy doll based on the characters Topsy and Eva in Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin. They were common in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Great addition to your Black Americana or Antique Doll Collection.
