Description: You are looking at: The Americanization of Edward Bok: The Autobiography of a Dutch Boy Fifty Years Afterby Edward Bok New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1920. First edition. Edward Bok won the Pulitzer Prize for biography/autobiography for this book in 1921. SIGNED twice by Bok, once on a typed letter and once after the personal inscription on the ffep. Both addressed to Thomas W. Hulme, who is mentioned in the book itself (page 398). The typed letter, dated November 29, 1920, is on letterhead from the President's Office of the Academy of Music Corporation, Philadelphia, which is stapled onto the back of a photograph. The photograph, a portrait of seven stately gentleman, is split down the middle--straight through Mr Bok's smiling face, and the right half of the photo is stapled to the ffep on the lower edge. Underneath the right part of the photo on the ffep is an inscription dated October 1920. The typed letter reads: "My dear Hulme: Thank you, old man, for your fine letter from Denver, and believe me I appreciate your friendly sentiments. My association with you is one of the fine things that I like to look back upon and I do hope our lines will cross again. With every good regard, believe me, Very sincerely yours, Edward W. Bok" The inscription reads: "My dear Hulme: May I send you this souvenir of the splendid cooperation you gave and our happy association in these tragic days of the Great War! I am glad the experience came into my life if only for the acquaintances it meant for me with you. You were a wonderfulsupport and I shall never cease to be grateful to you - Very sincerely your friend, Edward W. Bok" Presumably Mr Hulmes is one of the other men in the photograph. Thomas W. Hulme was "of the Pennsylvania Railroad", and was the Chairman of Bok's YMCA recruitment committee in Philadelphia during the First World War. Condition: No dust jacket. Spine is faded, corners and spine ends bumped, light scuffing. Interior, beyond the front endpapers, is clean and unmarked. Binding remains firm. Will be shipped securely and insured.
