Description: For sale is an original abstract drawing by the highly regarded New York artist Bruce Dorfman (1936 - Provenance: The Woodstock estate of artist Robert Angeloch (1922 - 2011). Dorfman taught at the Arts Student League in Woodstock. He was friends with Robert Angeloch. This drawing is black crayon on paper and features abstracted circular forms interspersed with swirling and jutting wavy lines forming one abstract living mass of motion. It’s signed by the artist in the bottom right corner. Condition: Very good. Framed and glazed. Measurements: Framed - 26 3/4” x 21 3/4” Sight (sheet) - 23 1/2” x 17 1/4” Bruce Dorfman has had fifty-six solo exhibitions in New York, the United States and abroad. His most recent exhibitions include: June Kelly Gallery, NYC (2018); Inclusive Moments: Gallery of the American Fine Arts Society, NYC (2018-19); Past / Present: A Retrospective, Monmouth University, NJ, (September – December, 2016); Ways and Means, UBS Gallery, by Norte Maar, NYC (2016); June Kelly Gallery, NYC (2015); University of Iowa Museum of Art at The Figge Museum, Iowa (2015); Making / Breaking Traditions: The Teachers of Ai Weiwei: Art Students League (2014). Bruce Dorfman received a major Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award/Grant for 2017. He was also the recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation award/grant in 2008. Dorfman is the recipient of many other additional awards, grants and fellowships including: New York State Council on the Arts; Fulbright Fellowship; Rockefeller Foundation; U.S. Department of State; Arts East Foundation, Washington, DC; New York World’s Fair Invitational; National Academy of Design; Des Moines Art Center; Butler Institute of American Art; and Atelier Mourlot, Paris, France. Most recently, Dorfman’s art was selected and exhibited in “The Masters” exhibition, at the Art Students League, Hirschl & Adler and Gallery 511, NYC, November, 2018. His work has been written about extensively, including, most recently: Gallery Guide – Cover and essay , NYC (October 2018); Interview, Riverdale Press, NY (October 2018); ARTnews (September 2016); Interview, (December, 2016), LINEA, ASL Journal; Essay, on-line journal “First Things”, by Maureen Mullarkey, (September, 2015), as well as reviews in The New York Times, Art in America, ARTnews, and City Arts. His art has also received critical attention in periodicals, catalogs and monographs in the U.S. and abroad. Bruce Dorfman has been teaching at the Art Students League since 1964, including the League summer school in Woodstock, NY,1964-1972. Dorfman has also taught at the New School, Syracuse University, the Everson Museum, and was Artist-in-Residence at the Norton Museum, Fl. He was a guest-artist and lecturer at museums, and art institutions in Venezuela, Portugal and France from 1993 to 1996, Bruce Dorfman studied at the Art Students League with Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Arnold Blanch and Charles H. Alston. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where he studied with Stuart Edie, Mauricio Lasansky and art historian Roy Seiber.
