Description: A Stunning & Rare c1700 Ko-Imari Reticulated Octagonal Dish in Ormolu Mount A stunning and extremely rare Imari pattern reticulated octagonal dish in a beautiful gilt bronze ormolu mount. The dish is beautifully decorated in classic Imari colours of underglaze blue, overglaze red enamel and gilt. To the centre of the dish there is a vase with flowers within a red octagonal band. Beyond this there are eight openwork reticulated medallions in the shape of a Seigaiha wave pattern which have alternating gilt. The dish dates to the middle Edo period, late 17th century / early 18th century. This is a very rare and much sought after museum quality piece. Very similar dishes are on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (without the ormolu mount which is more European in style and likely added when the dish was exported to Europe), the Brooklyn Museum, the Petit Palais Museum of Fine Arts of the City of Paris and also the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. (Plate with a vase of flowers | Japanese, for European market | The Metropolitan Museum of Art (metmuseum.org) Hollow dish, decoration "Imari" | Paris Museums Dish | Unknown | V&A Explore The Collections (vam.ac.uk) The dish is in remarkable condition with no chips or cracks although the gilt is worn in places. To one corner of the outer rim there is a 2cm section that is either a manufacturing defect or a restored chip (see photograph #10). The reticulated medallions are remarkably all intact with no damage at all. The ormolu stand is in excellent intact condition with no signs of any damage or repairs although it would benefit from cleaning to remove some dust accumulation. This is simply a beautiful, rare museum piece in wonderful condition. The dish is 25cm wide (corner to opposite corner) and ~5.5cm deep (without stand). On the ormolu stand it is 16cm high and weighs 1.076kg. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like further details or pictures.
