Description: International Business Machines Corp., International Time Recording Division, model 25MC master clock and model 601-9 master time controller, circa 1945. The model 25 master clock is one of the last IBM electro-mechanical clocks made by IBM. It is a self-winding clock that rewinds itself and controlled various building functions (clock synchronization, ring bells, control lights, etc.) using electro-magnets. Accuracy is maintained by a pendulum. This clock has an upgraded pendulum. See the photo. The clock is powered by the 601-9 controller that plugs into a standard household outlet. The plug and all the wiring are original. The controller is housed in its own metal box and wires into the top of the clock, so no equipment has been installed in the clock case itself. The controller rewinds the clock and the additional outputs connected to various building functions. This clock ran in my house for 8 years through 2012 and kept time accurately. However, in 2012 the self-winding mechanism began to occasionally fail to wind the clock and the clock would stop after a couple of days. I never had a chance to diagnose and repair the issue before I was transferred to a project out of state in 2012. The clock remained at my home until late 2016 and has been in storage since then. The 601-9 master time controller has always been stored at my home. The self-winding mechanism problem could be related to the switch, or a power problem. The mechanism operated properly most of the time but would randomly fail and the clock would stop. It could be that the controller no longer consistently produces the 24V DC power required to operate the self-winding electro-magnets. It is an old piece of equipment and, to my knowledge, has never been serviced. The case is in reasonably good condition and should clean up nicely. As I said, this clock ran great and kept accurate time for years. However, I’m sure the mechanism needs cleaning after seven years in storage. This clock does not appear to have been placed in service or is missing the tag identifying their client and the service tag is unmarked. I believe this clock bearing serial number 756680PG was made in 1945. Please see the photos for details and damage. Crating and shipping of this clock will be several hundred dollars but I won’t ship it unless properly crated.
