Description: This is for an original program for the 1943 baseball All Star game which was played in Shibe Park in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The American League stars would defeat the National League 5-3 in the first All Star game ever scheduled and played at night. Stan Hack and Vince DiMaggio would both get 3 hits for the Nationals with Vince falling a double short of hitting for the cycle while Red Sox second baseman Bobby Doerr would receive most of the headlines for a 3 run homer in the second inning off Mort Cooper. This program is one of the keys in completing a complete set of All Star programs as its rarity hinges on a ton of factors including WWII paper drives. This one is about as nice as they come with the faintest bit of a remaining crease where it was rolled up in 1943 on the original owners walk to his car (mentioned for accuracies sake only). The program has been scored correctly in light pencil and is about as clean of a book that you could hope to find. To do it one better, this one comes with the original ticket stub to the game. A gorgeous ticket to the lower grandstand at Shibe Park. An interesting sidenote to the game is that Philadelphia Athletics first baseman Dick Siebert was the home teams only representative to the game and would finish the year with a .251 batting average to go along with 1 home run and 71 RBI’s. Dick would go hitless in his only at bat of the game. In the 94 years of playing the Mid Summer Classic, this one ranks 85th in lowest attendance.
