Description: Original antique print from a book published in 1888. " Jesus Christ Reveals Himself To St. John " " And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And he laid his right hand on me, saying unto me,'Fear not; Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, ad the things which shall be hereafter."Revelation chapter 1, v. 17-19The Holy Bible , King James Version ( KJV ) --------- A scene from the Book of Revelation ; the final book of the Holy Bible. Revelation 1:17-18 unveils a majestic revelation of the glorified Christ. These verses portray a scene of awe, assurance, and divine authority. They state that Jesus, the eternal and resurrected One, holds the keys to death and the realm of the dead. St. John, kneeling and writing in a book, is on the island of Patmos in the Aegean sea, where he dwelt in exile.Jesus appears framed by clouds, seated above a sphere representing the earth. In apostle John's vision, Jesus is holding seven stars in his right hand while in the midst of seven golden lampstands. In Revelation 1:20, Jesus explains that the seven stars represent the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands represent the churches themselves. The stars are under Jesus' authority, symbolized by his right hand, which represents strength and control. Some scholars interpret the angels as heavenly beings who protect the churches. The Greek word for "angel" can also refer to a human messenger, such as the leader of a church to whom Jesus Christ directed John to write letters. A sharp sword appears in the air beside Jesus. It symbolizes the power of Christ's word. ------ Sheet size is about 9.25" x 11.5"Image size, including the text, is about 7.5" x 7.75" The artist, Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794-1872), was a German painter, chiefly of Biblical subjects. As a young man he associated with the painters of the Nazarene movement who revived the florid Renaissance style in religious art. He is remembered for his Bible pictures and for his designs for stained glass windows in cathedrals. --------- Over 130 years old. Good condition. Carefully packed for shipment to the buyer.
