Additional Information The County Seat of Navarro County, Corsicana, sits some sixty miles south of downtown Dallas and remains a classic example of small-town Texas. The County is now considered part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Statistical Area. This map was published fourteen years prior to the accidental discovery of oil in the city, which would transform the area economically. This was the first significant discovery of an oilfield in Texas and would mark a period that created some of the most iconic images of Texas' history, both culturally and economically. By 1899 Corsicana was home to one of the state's first oil refineries.   The late eighteenth century saw the region's population expand. The economy was primarily agricultural and cattle-based until the discovery of oil. In 1905 prominent American industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie gave a matching gift to help establish the city’s first permanent library in 1905. Corsicana would also become one of the training grounds for thousands of American pilots during World War II. The County was named for José Antonio Navarro, a leader during the Texas revolution who would go on to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence. Corsicana was one of the first cities in Texas to lower the American flag in 1861 following the election of Abraham Lincoln. This map bears a classic aesthetic and minimal style that creates a connection between the past and present. This authentic piece of cartographical history immediately transports the viewer back in time and remains an essential piece of Texas' legacy. Our museum quality giclee print comes printed with archival ink on premium heavyweight matte paper. Shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube your print will arrive ready to be framed. This eye-catching vintage map reproduction print makes the perfect gift for anyone that loves history and imagery.
