Description: For offer, an 1845 1st Edition, of the "Historical Record of the 11th Foot", The North Devon Regiment, covering the formation of the Regiment in 1685 through to 1845. This piece was presented to "The Captain, Officers, and Yeomen of H.M. Royal Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard", on 31st October 1895, by "Lt: Colonel Kinder and Officers of the 2nd Batt'n Devonshire regiment", as detailed on the firmly affixed presentation label to the internal front cover board. Yeomen of the Guard, take part in the annual Royal Maundy Service, the State Opening of Parliament, the Epiphany Service in the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace, all investitures and summer Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace, the installation of Knights of the Garter in St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, the investiture of The Prince of Wales, and at the Coronations, lying-in-state, and funeral of the Sovereign. There are 73 Yeomen of the Guard, all of whom are former warrant or non-commissioned officers of the British Services. Yeomen of the Guard are not the same as the Yeomen Warders who guard the Tower of London, although their uniforms are almost identical. The Yeomen of the Guard can be distinguished by their cross belts, worn from the left shoulder. They carry a sword, which is not drawn, and a halberd known as a 'Partisan'. The Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard was created by Henry VII in 1485 after the battle of Bosworth. The author of this record was 'Richard Cannon Esq' of the Adjutant-General's office, Horse Guards.I do not believe that this edition has ever been read in its entirety, due to the fact that many of the pages are still joined together at their head, as they missed the guillotine when it was being bound (see above photographs). All three of the coloured plates are present, and in superb state. The condition is very good to excellent indeed, having relatively clean cover boards, with some soiling to the page external tops from shelf storage, and age discolouration to the pages, some minor edge knocks, free from foxing.Dimensions: 9" x 5 7/8" x 3/8" (22.8cm x 14.9cm x 1.0cm)Weight: 8.3oz (235g)Page count: 88 pages.
