1840s Creole New Orleans French Author Alfred Mercier Manuscript Inscription

Description: Inscription torn from a volume Mercier sent to Frederic Gaillardet, French playwright and New Orleans bon vivant who resurrected the Courier as a French language newspaper. Gaillardet is best known for his lifelong feud with Alexander Dumas. To my esteemed friend Frederic Gaillardet, the author of La Tour da Nesle, and editor of the Courrier des Etats Unis. I offer this essay on poetry as a very weak testimony to the high opinion I have of his character and his talents. Paris October 30, 1842.
