The collage photo shows the front of two paper covers from booklets of that period - the first for Dr. Wm. Hall’s Balsam and the second for Hood’s Sarsaparilla Book of Wit & Humor - these obviously cut from the actual publications and saved. Up next is a nice VEGETINE trade card depicting “MAJOR” - the company’s mascot! To the right of Major is a McLaughlin’s XXXX Coffee card depicting a Japanese Musician - this one having damage on the top right corner. At left-center is a Scott’s emulsion trade card which depicts “The Little Turk”. To the Turk’s right is a Lydia Pinkham’s showing “Grandchildren” and advertising the company’s Vegetable Compound on the reverse side. To the grandchildren’s right is an impressive McLaughlin’s XXXX Coffee trade card depicting Christopher Columbus’ Landing in the New World. It has a smaller chink out of it’s top-right corner. To Chris’ right is a paper St. Jacobs Oil advertising Butterfly! These probably hung from the store ceiling on a string back in the day. At bottom left is the third McLaughlin’s XXXX Coffee trade card depicting a “HINDOO DANCING GIRL” - and not missing any corners. The final item at bottom-right is a card depicting a boy whose baseball game has been rained-out! The reverse side advertises Diamond Brand dyes, paints, and bluing. Note that the edges of this card have been trimmed into the advertising print. A scanner was used to secure the photos I have provided.
